01Why only one bag?+
Because we wanted to make the best version of one thing, not the twentieth version of twenty things. A single design lets us spend years refining grain, weight and proportion.
02Why does it cost what it costs?+
Eleven hours of hand-stitching, weeks of vegetable-tanning in Fes, brass cast in Catalonia, and a Madrid atelier that pays its makers a living wage. The cost is the bill for doing things slowly.
03How is your leather tanned?+
Vegetable-tanned with mimosa and tadla bark in the old tanneries of Fes, in the Rif. No chrome, no chemicals that stay in the leather for life. The hides take weeks, not minutes.
04What is saddle stitch?+
Two needles, waxed thread, every hole stitched twice from opposite sides. The only stitch where, if one knot fails, the rest hold for decades. We use 42 stitches per decimetre on French linen thread.
05What hardware do you use?+
Solid brass, cast in Catalonia and finished by hand. No plating, no electroform. The hardware will outlive the bag, and the bag is built to outlive a fast-fashion shop.
06Do you ship internationally?+
Worldwide, included in the price. Each bag travels in a hand-made cedar trunk with a numbered certificate, carnauba wax and a hand-written note. Customs duties for non-EU destinations are paid at delivery.
07What does the warranty cover?+
Stitching, edges, and hardware — for life, for as long as you own the bag. Patina and natural shaping are features, not faults. Anything that ever fails returns to Madrid, repaired free.
08Can I return it?+
Within 30 days of delivery, in original condition, full refund. After that, the warranty takes over — repair instead of return.
09Can I visit the atelier?+
Yes, every Friday afternoon by appointment. Calle del Olivar 12, Madrid. Owners of a Rifino bag visit free for life — repairs, waxing, the occasional espresso.
